Former Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board staff, Aminu Mahdi, apprehended for alleged fatal assault on 43-year-old wife.
Aminu Mahdi, 63, hailing from Yelwa ward in Mubi North LGA, reportedly took the life of his second wife, Hadiza Zubuchi, over denied bed access.
The suspect confessed to this grave act while in custody and being interrogated by Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on Thursday.
On the evening of August 27, 2023, Aminu Mahdi recounted returning home at 9:00 PM. After eating and changing, he was denied entry to his wife's bed. A confrontation followed, during which he took a stick from her and struck her buttocks and chest. He admitted to striking her four times, resulting in her untimely demise. The couple had wed on April 17, 2016.
Expressing remorse for his actions, Aminu Mahdi lamented, "I didn't expect that this kind of incident will happen to me. It was a mistake."
SP Nguroje disclosed that Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a comprehensive probe.
The police spokesperson assured that upon completion of the investigation, the command would ensure the suspect's prosecution.
