Operatives of the Adamawa Police Command have arrested 3 young men on suspicion of burglary as well as theft in a dwelling house.
The suspect apprehended include; Ibrahim Usman, Jibrilla Aliyu(J Boy) and Hammawa of Polo Ground in Damare in Yola South LGA, while Umar Dakere, Aminu Babayi, Dan Jimeta and Horange have escaped.
The suspects confessed to having burgled a house at Yolde Pate in Yola South LGA and stolen items including crate beer, women shoes, shirts, 3 television sets, pressing stone, handsets among others.
While confessing to the crime at the State Police Headquarters on Saturday, one of the accused, Ibrahim Usman, said that they had burgled the house and made away with the items.
According to him, it was one of their friend who advised them to go and burgle the house, saying that they collectively went and surveyed the house and discovered it was locked.
He explained that they invaded the house between 7:00 -8:00 pm and carted away some of the items and returned back to pack other items from the house the following day.
He revealed that they sold 55 inches of tv set to one Muhammad Umar of Sangere FUTY at the sum of N18, 000, and offered bottles of beer to 2 of their girl friends.
Ibrahim, who is married and has 2 children, said that they decided to engage in the illegal act in order to raise money to prepare for their friends' birthday party in Yola South.
The Command's Spokesman, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who confirmed the arrest, said that the Commissioner of Police, SK Akande, had ordered for discreet investigation into the matter.
He assured that the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution and advised parents to intensify effort towards ensuring proper upbringing of their wards.
